Glyc now has an IBD-friendly filter — and for me, it's personal
I started Glyc because of my blood sugar. After a type-2 diabetes diagnosis I got tired of spending twenty minutes per recipe working out the glycemic load by hand — so I built a tool that does the math and shows its work. But diabetes isn't the only thing I cook around. I've also had Crohn's disease for 24 years, and anyone managing IBD knows the recipe question is just as fiddly: is this actually going to sit well, or am I guessing? So we added an IBD-friendly filter to Glyc's recipe catalog. It's built on the four building blocks of a good IBD recipe — the framework the folks at IBD Movement have written about: lean protein, oils instead of solid fats, an emphasis on soluble over abrasive insoluble fiber, and minimally-processed ingredients without a pile of additives or sodium. The filter checks every recipe against all four, automatically. More than 50 recipes qualify today, and the number grows as we add more. One thing I want to be straight about: this is a computed guide, not medical advice. It's built from a recipe's ingredients and nutrition — the same "show the math" approach as everything else on Glyc. IBD is deeply individual — your triggers aren't my triggers — so treat it as a starting point, and talk to your GI or a registered dietitian about your own diet.
If you're managing IBD (or, like me, IBD and diabetes at once), give it a try: Browse the IBD-friendly recipes here: https://getglyc.com/recipes/tag/ibd-friendly/
